Ommmm..or faking a bit of serenity

Whether you call it prayer, meditation, or another name all together, it's fascinating how this seemingly simple act can have such a profound effect on the mind. It can rewire it entirely. As someone with chronic depression, i'm all over that rewiring thing.

I like mantra's, they are an internal prayer you can keep with you all ay long. I don't think it counts as vain repetion as long as you have the right attitude while saying/feeling it. Besides, there can be a lot of beauty in their simplicity.

This week I'm going to search h for my mantra. Then I'll name it and give it a good home. Or at least work on repeating it and seeing if it's a good fit.

I've read that one to three words are the best. Here are a few possible ones:

Peace
Be present
This too shall pass
Simplify, Simplify
Breathe
Keep breathing
Keep swimming-Disney movies are full of mantras
Do it now
small steps
fail better
stop, listen
accept grace

Do you have any to share? I'd one to hear them. Let me know if you already have a mantra that's working for you or if you're going to give a mantra a try.

This week my mantra will be peace. Peace in the moment, my breathing, my tendency to overreact. peace peace peace

Turning the switch: Part 3

O.K. When I explain this, I know it'll probably sound a bit odd. Or maybe it'll be something that sounds obvious, but it wasn't for me. Hense the reason for the sharing. Brushing my teeth turns the hunger signal off. Now I don't want this to sound like I normally avoid brushing my teeth and I'm some sort of dental nightmare. (or dream depending on the dentists motives) I brush regularly and all, but the key is to brush right after I eat. Chewing gum doesn't have the same effect. I tend to stay hungry. Maybe it's because food doesn't taste different after chewing gum, or because gum dehydrates and therefore makes me hungry again.

So, in addition to guzzling aqua and popping in some tunes, I'm also going to brush my teeth immediately after meals. To turning off the false hunger-huzzah! Sometimes I think we need more huzzah's.
